After she became a mom, and having produced many television segments on parenting and safety, she was inspired to write her book in order to discuss the many issues facing parents today in an informative yet fun way.
During the Clinton administration, she worked with the Points of Light Foundation as part of the media team for the President's Summit for America's Future, and continues to work with nonprofit organizations lobbying to protect children from unintentional injuries; she is vice president of Kids AND Cars, a nonprofit working to protect children in and around cars.
Jamie has consulted and written for magazines, including Working Mother, Pregnancy and Parents. She lives with her husband, Steven, and her daughters Cydney, 5, and Samantha, 1, in suburban New York.
As a mother and a child safety advocate, Jamie combines her passions for learning and sharing. By literally getting down on the ground and seeing the world from her children's point of view, she enjoys a perspective that has raised her own level of awareness, and which enables her to continue to raise that of others.
But it doesn't stop at baby-proofing. As a mother, Jamie finds that she learns as much from her children as anything she can teach them. She stops to notice things that her girls discover. With every question they pose and every observation they make, they teach her as much as she could ever teach them…about a blade of grass, the moon and stars, the shadows that follow them as they stroll. Jamie is dedicated to all lessons learned—from parent to child, child to parent, and parent to parent—as she continues to look for ways to help ensure safety and joy in the lives of families everywhere.
